Listen, I haven't read this particular book, but all these types of systems are basically the same.
They have a set number of "letters" or "gates" or whatever you go through and meditate upon. It's basically a pathworking at a meditative level. The process of meditation (or ritual) is intensified by working through the "letters" in a specific order. Each of the 72 has its own energy, and by working in order, you build on the energies you've worked with previously.
This is the same whether it's Qabalistic pathworking up and down the Tree of Life, the 72 letters of the Shemhamphorash(which this book is probably based off of?), or even the gates of Inanna from Necronomicon.
You methodically invoke or induce the forces of each letter (or group of letters as your book probably uses), and move through the entire system, thus being renewed. How intense each meditation or ritual is will definitely effect the intensity of results.
The key to working any of these systems is consistency. If you just do one or two meditations, then you won't get the full force of the 72 pathworkings. Whether the book you are using is any good or not I have no idea. Hope this helps.
